21, of Tazewell, VA.; assigned to the 4th Support Battalion, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; died Oct. 7 from injuries sustained when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using small arms fire during combat operations in Baghdad.
SGT Brandon S. Asbury was born on 30 July 1985 in Richlands, Virginia.
SGT Asbury entered the United States Army on 20 July 2004. He graduated Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Upon graduation, he was assigned to, Echo Forward Support Company, 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. In December 2005 SGT Asbury deployed with the 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry, in support of OIF 05-07.
SGT Asbury’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, and the Combat Action Badge.
SGT Asbury is survived by his wife, Sherri Asbury, and his stepdaughters Morgan, Katie, and Sydney Lopatesky of Killeen Texas; his mother, Regina Alberts of Taylorsville, North Carolina; and his father and stepmother, Walter and Lisa Asbury of Tazewell, Virginia.
