My uncle Raul was born on October 16, 1929 he was one of three brothers and one sister.
They lived in a neighborhood in the south side of Chicago called The back of the yards.
They were orphans after my grandmother past away of cancer. Later his older brother Adam during the second world war was killed in an automobile accident while on leave. He went to live with aunts and uncles in the south side neighborhood known as canaryville. He dropped out of school to join the army in 1947. He served 18 months than reinlisted for an additional 18 months and in that time he attended officers candidate school. He graduated received His diploma and before he was ranked to 2nd Lieutenant President Truman froze the ranks for all personnel and added 1 additional year of service to active members. At that time he was two months shy of discharge when he was shipped to Korea. He served postumously and received the following awards: 1 purple heart, 1 good conduct, 1 national defense service, 1 korean service medal with bronze service star, 1 united nations service medal,1 republic of Korea presidential unit citation.
